Kevin Alford has spent his whole life in Broome County — the same neighborhoods, the same schools, the same community he's asking to represent. Before politics, Kevin built a career with his hands: years in the U.S. Navy, decades as a union carpenter, and now as the owner of a local small business. He knows what it means to meet a budget, deliver on a deadline, and show up for the people counting on you.
That's the same standard Kevin wants to bring to county government: practical common sense instead of political theater, and a legislator who treats every tax dollar like it's his own.

Ask Kevin what he's fighting for and he'll ask a question right back: what's most important to you? His own list starts with a roof over people's heads, runs through honest bookkeeping, and ends with a community that's safe and welcoming enough to call home.
Housing isn't one issue on a long list — it's the one that makes the others solvable. Helsinki proved it with Housing First: give people a home first, and the problems that orbit homelessness — drug abuse, mental illness, and the crime that grows up around them — start to ease. That's the model Kevin wants Broome County to learn from.

$1.5 million of taxpayer money went into a purchase that should never have cleared without real oversight — $650,000 of it to an out-of-state landlord LLC that ranks among the worst landlords in Broome County. Kevin wants that deal investigated and leadership that makes sure it can't happen twice.
"We need better leadership so that things of that nature no longer happen without proper oversight."
The IDA's last audit turned up $47,000 in questionable and plainly inappropriate spending — and the extra oversight only arrived after the report came out. That's closing the door after the horse left the barn. Any group handed public dollars should file a quarterly or twice-yearly report on exactly what it spent them on.
